about

Kyrie was originally written in 1996 when I was a member of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir. The style is influenced by Bulgarian choir music. In that year I formed a group called Mosaic, whose aim was to perform my compositions. We performed Kyrie and a few other pieces at two private events of the RMPS before disbanding. The text for Kyrie is the first part of the Latin Mass (the Kyrie part being in Greek). One Mosaic/choir member Ros suggested I write a complete mass. The idea remained in my head for quite a while before popping out in 1999 as the idea to apply for an Arts grant to write, perform and record a new mass. I got the grant and formed RMIT Occasional Choral Society (ROCS). The rest of the mass was then written over a period of eight months and performed in May 2000. This recording of Kyrie was made in about 1998 for my EP Context Sensitive released in that year.
